QQ is synonymous with Spyware here in China, but this sanitized version in the App store is pretty clean. However, when you start it up, it immediately asks you if you want to go to their own web site to update to the newest version. DO NOT DO THIS! The “updated” version has no additional functionality but, instead, installs something called “QQ Platform” which adds no functionality, but does add a “stealth” installer login item that installs who knows what and causes your computer to momentarily hang during shutdowns.

However, if you don’t download the update, this App gives basic QQ chatting functionality to Mac Users.
